BOOM! The birds emerge from the tall grass, rapidly climb into the sky and scatter. While in the air the bird captain takes a head count, ‘Everyone alright?’ he calls out. ‘Yup’, ‘think so’, ‘I think they missed all of us’ are the replies. Relieved, the captain becomes curious, ‘they never miss all of us’. He loops back over the open field to survey if maybe one of the flock is down. As the captain approaches he sees the hunters gathered over something, ‘shit, they did get one of us…’ He risks flying a bit lower to see who (‘probably my dumb fucking brother in-law’ he thinks). As he descends, he notices that whoever is down was huge, ‘who in the flock is that big?’ Lower still, ‘holy shit, that’s not one of the flock, that’s a hunter and he was shot in the face!’ Relieved, the captain circles back to meet the rest of the flock. As he departs the scene all he hears is a scratchy voice chuckling, ‘heh heh heh heh’
Remember the day when Dick got a little too curious about what it would feel like to shoot a man… in the face? I do, and what surprised me most about that event was my own reaction, a complete and utter lack of surprise. Kind of a shrug of the shoulder, ‘figures’ type of reaction. This is the mutherfucker that continually pushed politically policies solely to advance the personal holdings of himself and his friends, picked himself to be Vice President, pushed falsified evidence (connections to 9/11, WMDs, etc) to send US soldiers to die in Iraq, threatens just about every other country on Earth that they will die at the hands(bombs) of the US, and kept a ‘man-size safe’ in his office – just to mention a few highlights. So shooting a friend in the face with a shotgun does not really confound the imagination.
Dick has been in or around the White House since the early 70s (because he effectively dodged the draft 6 times) and has for decades been an integral part of creating and pushing the Neo-Con agenda that has lead us to the brink we now rest on. This notorious career recently witnessed him exiting the Vice Presidency with an approval /public opinion rating lower than the Israeli opinion of Hitler.
So then why the fuck do I read about Dick’s newest bullshit rant on a seemingly daily basis? And why isn’t the only response from the media, ‘who gives a shit’?
Dick is embarking on a quest to salvage his reputation and stay out of jail (and something more evil discussed below). He has been making speech after speech, giving interview after interview in an effort to push the benefits of policies that this country JUST EMPHATICALLY REJECTED during the last election cycle; not to mention the tiny detail that many of them are, in fact, illegal. He truly believes that if he says, ‘I strongly support waterboarding, and it’s results’ enough, all will be forgiven and torture will be accepted. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! It was torture during the Spanish Inquisition 500+ years ago, it was torture during WWII when it was done to our troops, and IT’S FUCKING TORTURE NOW!
So why now, immediately after this country finally stood up and screamed ‘NO!’ is Dick getting more coverage than ever? I get that it makes for good drama, in the vein of ‘Rock of Love’ (Obama vs Cheney, Liberal vs Neo-Con, etc). But this isn’t VH1 damnit.
Nevertheless here he is, being Dick. Coming out against the Obama decision to close Guantanamo, railing again and again that we should torture, and trying to set the stage for one big fucking trap. And this is the point of (little) Dick being out and about all the time lately. He (and the rest of the Neo-Con leadership) are attempting to set a big fucking trap, and it goes something like this…
- Let’s assume Obama is an 8-year president, not too hard to do as the GOP is in shambles and unlikely to recover in time for 2012.
- We know there are people plotting to attack this country
- 8 years is a fairly long time
The Neo-Con’s legacy and future depends on the hope of somebody successfully carrying out an attack in this country during the Obama administration. That is Cheney’s hope (sick bastard, but it is). If we are attacked, the Neo-Con noise factory will immediately begin screaming that we were only attacked because Obama ceased the Bush/Cheney policies. They’d begin doing this before the victims of this hypothetical attack would even be buried.
But the reality is quite different. If we are attacked, it would only be because the sole accomplishment of the fucked up Bush/Cheney policies was to act as the greatest recruiting tool our enemies could have ever hoped for. Every time the conversation of the US and torturing someone came up, we gave credence to the rantings of our enemies (I say we because it was done in our name, whether you like it or not).
Imagine for a moment (as difficult as it may be) foreign troops marching through your neighborhood, occupying your hometown. Now imagine they take a neighbor/sibling/father/friend/etc and hold them. Later you’re told (whether it’s true or not) that this person you care for has been tortured at the hand of those soldiers. Tell me, how would you feel? How would you feel about the flag on the uniforms of those soldiers, or the people that stand behind that flag? This is the reality that the Bush/Cheney policies have created for our country. A legacy of a humans rights violations, illegal wars, the shredding of the Constitution and fear mongering (just to name a few).
And the bitch of it is, we let it happen, it really is our fault (that’s right, look in the fucking mirror). Every system our founding fathers put in place to stop just these types of actions failed. The press – bought and paid for. Congress – too afraid of losing the next election cycle and/or losing their donors, to stand up and say ‘this is regod-damn-diculous’. Us, the citizens of this experiment in freedom – we (for the most part) stood by silently and watched the most important document in history be torn up in front of us. We watched as thousands (on both sides) were murdered so a few sociopathic people could exorcise their insecurities on the rest of the world, all in our name. We didn’t only watch, we voted Bush/Cheney to two fucking terms (well, really only one term but let’s not go there…). THAT IS FUCKING INSANITY!!!!!
So it only took all of that for enough of this country to finally stand up. But guess what? The job isn’t close to over. Though I fear much of the country thinks it is. I’m really happy you have your ‘I Voted’ sticker from last November, but get over it. That was just the very first step in the long walk of getting this country where it needs to be moving forward. There are many more steps to be taken (many of which I hope to discuss on this site). But what’s the very next step, you ask???
I think a good place to start would be to say, FUCK YOU DICK CHENEY! SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!
